Our development occupies the former site of – and takes its name from – the family firm of Thorburn’s.

Their fish smoking business began when John Thorburn from the Scottish fishing village of Fisherrow married Rachel Dawson during the Second World War – they had met through the family friendship of John’s father and George Dawson of Seahouses (both men were fisherman). The site itself was had been the home of a long established salted herring business dating back to the 19th Century. The Thorburn family continues to live in and around the village.

In our designs and use of traditional materials we have remembered this heritage and the generations of seafarers who have lived here, but we have incorporated all the conveniences of modern living, meeting the highest environmental and energy efficiency standards.

To bring our vision to fruition we have brought together a team combining extensive national and international property experience harnessed to the skills of a highly regarded local construction and development company. We have drawn in every respect on the best practice without ever losing sight of the demands of this special location.
